Shar Pei Dogs…?
Are Shar Pei dogs playful? Like if you have one, should you buy a bone toy or something? And do they hate or love water? Like on the beach, would you take one there?
Shar Pei's are excellent dogs! They were bred as guard dogs and later as fighting dogs, but they can be really great family pets if well socialized. If not, they can become aggressive.
They are playful, in fact they are pretty aggressive chewers (like bulldogs) so you would need to get some tough rubber toys (like Kongs and TireBiters).
Honestly, I don't know how they feel about water. I had a 1/2 Shar Pei mix and he loved the water, but who knows how the other breed affected that. He also loved to bound. Yes, bound, like a deer. He was so funny to watch in the tall grass!
I can't see why you would have any problem taking one to the beach. Even dogs who don't naturally like water can be taught not to fear it by a patient master (like my boxers).
The one thing you need to know is that the breed has some health problems associated with it.
Here's the Wikipedia link. Good luck choosing a pet!

They aren't playful or very affectionate.
They can be playful with their own people, but are quite reserved dogs and pretty stoic. They aren't going to wiggle around and adore you like a golden retriever. In fact, without proper socialization (and sometimes even with) the breed is VERY prone to being AGGRESSIVE towards strangers. This isn't the breed to have if you run a day care center or have kids over all the time.
I wouldn't take a shar-pei to the beach or to go swimming. Water in between the wrinkles can cause infections or rashes unless its 100% dried.
This is a high maintnence breed health wise-do a lot of research on them before you consider getting one.

EDIT: No, any dog will NOT be playful just because you "raise" it to be playful. Certain breeds have breed characteristics, and no matter how you "raise" them they will express these characteristics.

Any dog will be playful as long asu raise it to be playful. If u take them to the beach or anywhere then they will love it. Anydog will take any chew toy that u give. Remember its how the owner raises it and treats it is how it will act.

i had one for 7 years. Tazz loved the stuffed squeaker toys and the real bones that still has marrow in them. i have taken him to the beach but he wasn't a fan of water he just loved running after his water Kong, but that is different with each dog. the breed is very play full and loyal. they do have a tendency to "over protect" their property. they also have problem with skin irritation cause of the wrinkles and are prone to "eye eruption" whats when the eyelids turn in and scratch the eye ball.
