I receive many questions day after day, from Dog owners that
are experiencing difficult times when it comes to
training their dogs, especially when it comes to behaving the
‘right way’.
Well, what is the ‘right way’,and why is your dog not behaving
in this manner?
Firstly I ask all Dog owners to make sure that there are no
dog health issues at hand, that may be causing any ‘bad
behavior’ from their dogs. Some Dog health/medical issues may
include any intestinal/digestive, parasitic or fungal problems
or any dental/gum problems or pain. If your dog is feeling any
sort of discomfort or pain then it will not want to adhere to any
thing going on in its surroundings- the pain may be too much to
bare.
So once the medical side of your dog, has the all clear, then
we can get to the real Dog Training issues needed to treat and
remedy this ‘bad behavior’.
Most ‘bad dog behavior’ as we dog owners see it is behavior
that is not domesticated i.e. we want our dogs to behave well
with no biting/jumping or even licking, also we want our dogs
to go do their toileting in a designated spot and at an
appropriate time. Toilet training is another frequently brought
up training problem.
We as dog owners expect to be the Boss of our pets and we expect
to be obeyed at all times.
Dog Training may take a bit of your time and some patience, all
depending on the individual dog, its past, and where the dog
sees itself in its ‘dog pack’ ranking. Remember every dog pack or
litter has a ranking system. Alpha dogs beleive they are the top
dogs and in control, they receive their food first and are
dominant over the rest of the litter. So if your dog has been the
top dog you may need to work a little harder to assert your control
over it and become the leader in your family hierarchy.
Beleive me this implementation of your dominance at all times is
the key to Dog Training. No matter if your dog is a new puppy or a
rescue dog, the strategies for dominance and training are the same.
Next week I will go into these strategic tips for being in control
and remaining the ‘master and top dog’.
Please keep an eye out for my next report.
Take care.

We still are having trouble wth our Maggie pulling on the leash, we have tried everything we can think of, different types of leashes, harness, things that we’ve been told by firend and read on the internet. I don’t know if it’s the Blood Hound in her or the Shar pei bull headiness, but she always has her head down and pulling. Anyone have a way we can try to fix this? My mother in law loves Maggie and wishes she could take her with her when she goes walking, but can’t because she too strong.
